The van doors slide open. There’s a bit of a hold up at the entrance as everyone takes their shoes off, then the patter of bare feet on dusty stone through the dark. We find our way up the narrow steep stairs in the back, duck under the low ceiling, squeeze through a tight arch and come out onto the wide terrace. In front of us mist rises between temples. Grey pagodas are glowing white with the first light creeping up to our right. It feels like only a moment, just one blink whilst all sounds quiet down and the balloons float up and all around us. Towards a golden sun on an early Friday morning.
