If you ever wondered where the best place would be to get together with your families and loved ones to celebrate occasions worth celebrating, I found the answer. It’s Fotheringhay. In this incredibly pretty village you’ll find apple trees, fox faces as door knockers and a wonderful pub called The Falcon Inn. Because Sarah and Simon know about the importance of good food and beautiful surroundings it was exactly this place they chose for their wedding in July.
“It’s about us, not about anything else”, Simon said. And so they celebrated their wedding day with just 17 guests, simply their families and James and Kayleigh. I do love a small wedding. It concentrates on what’s important. Despite the small group I felt incredibly welcomed by everyone not just on their wedding day. I even got invited for some home cooked lasagna the evening before! Including a slightly shaky Simon spurred on by a half-hourly countdown from Kayleigh.
The next day Sarah and Simon got dressed at home, tried to solve the age old enigma of how many people it takes to tie a ribbon to a car and then went for a little stroll down to the local tea shop for a pre-ceremony refreshment. Talk about being relaxed. After the ceremony at the Peterborough register office we all headed over to The Falcon Inn for tasty, tasty food and cake, laughing and crying through heartfelt speeches, sunshine and Pimms in the garden and some evening entertainment from a juke box. See? It is the best place for a wonderful small gathering of loved ones. Fotheringhay.
Thank you for such a great day and letting me be a part of it. Next time I’m in the area I’ll come by for some lasagna before heading to the Falcon.
