The first time Daniel wrote to me he kept it rather casual. Apparently he stumbled across my website whilst looking for a letterpress printer (my business cards are letterpress printed, you see), liked what he saw and simply wanted to let me know that he really liked my photos. He had seen lots of wedding photos since he was on the hunt for a photographer for his wedding in only 5 weeks time in Dublin.
And that was it. Just a nice email.
I had never been to Ireland. Nor did I have a wedding booked for that weekend in 5 weeks time. So I wrote back, asking for more information. And this time I got it. The long email Daniel wrote back made me fall in love with both him and Emily, his fiancée, as well as their story. Which is why I ended up travelling to Dublin only 5 weeks later to be at their wedding. And am I ever glad I did.
Emily is from America and her and Daniel met two years ago as he was working over there. Once he returned to Dublin they realised that LA to Dublin was not an acceptable distance to keep up which is why they got married on a beautiful, if slightly foggy, Saturday in May. I have no idea where to start in order to tell you what happened on that day as it was quite simply one of the most wonderful weddings I have ever been to. Due to the distance Emily only got to have a very close circle of family and friends with her but she certainly made up for lacking quantity with quality. And Daniel’s family – let’s just say that before I went everyone told me Irish people are really friendly. That has got to be the understatement of the century because these people are not friendly, they are the best. So much joy and warmth and happiness, topped by this incredibly cute couple; no one could blame me for getting emotional during the speeches. And that’s before I had a Guinness.
Before I leave you to drink in all this wonderfulness for yourself I need to inform you that Emily made her dress herself. Yes. Her wedding dress. Herself. And she had never done something like that before. I still can’t believe it and doubt that she would have looked any better in a designer wedding dress.
Emily and Daniel, thank you so much for trusting me and having me come to Ireland. I loved every minute of it and seriously hope to see you and your families again in the future. Much love and all the best for your future – together in one place.
