Alex & Matt

If you imagine a wedding set in the Great Gatsby era of the 1920’s but with a ceremony in a traditional Maori house from New Zealand and a reception in a French Art Deco café in Hamburg you would get pretty close to what Alex and Matt’s wedding looked like. You may want to throw in some festive Christmas glamour as well.

Alex and Matt live in Hamburg but Matt is originally from New Zealand and with a lot of his friends and family coming over for the wedding they decided on a very personal ceremony at the traditional Maori house in the Museum für Völkerkunde in Hamburg, based on readings by their good friends and witnesses and lead through the vows by Matt’s uncle Peter. The ceremony and the speeches later in the day were both in English and in German with a written translation handed out  to all the guests beforehand.

One of my favourite things about weddings is how families come together and it’s especially wonderful to see so many different people from far places get together and form a whole new family around two people who love each other. Add to that a whole bunch of Alex and Matt’s fantastic friends partying the night away (including some surprise Swing dance lessons) and you get this – a glamorous Winter wedding full of emotional touches. Congratulations Alex and Matt, what a way to make your wedding day truly memorable and special to you.

Ps: I am slightly in love with Alex’s dress. I mean look at it!
