Take an English seaside town, gold painted creatures of the sea and a giant moon to get married under. Combine these things with a modernist building that is a contemporary art gallery and you’ll find yourself at Emily and Stephen’s wedding at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea. “The ceremony and reception will be at my favourite building in the whole world (which just so happens to be in the town I grew up in) – the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-sea. It’s a modernist masterpiece and such an inspiring space. We are both so excited to get on with planning the wedding and have already roped in our various set designer and musician friends to help us out.” Whilst Emily’s emails made me borderline overexcited for their wedding they couldn’t prepare me for what the day turned out to be. It was a real family effort. Emily and her bridesmaids got ready at her grandma’s hose, both families were folding origami boats and the big moon cast his glow over the assembly full of people happy for Emily and Stephen.
Watching Stephen pull Emily close, his chin resting on her head as they both glance out over the sea, exhaling in unison; it’s clear these two are good together. Better together.
Emily wore the most beautiful Charlie Brear dress. The bouquets and buttonholes are by Astilbe and Sorrel whereas Emily’s Aunt and godmother took care of the reception flowers. A big thank you goes to Lucy from the De La Warr Pavilion – it’s such a pleasure to see a wedding run this smoothly and have someone smile at you throughout the whole day. And in case you were wondering, my seating card was a gold sprayed sea gherkin. I’m sure it means good things will come my way.
